Distributions to agencies

Farm Share is making a difference.

This program is based on a great concept and is a proven success. Throughout the years, we have dramatically increased the amount of food recovered and the number of individuals fed. Farm Share provides food to many thousands of households through the following programs:

Florida agency distributions — Hundreds of eligible agencies pick up fresh vegetables and fruits at Farm Share's facilities, located at several Florida farmers' markets, twice per week or as needed. In addition, Farm Share transports food throughout the state of Florida to participating agencies and other organizations.

Soup Kitchen Program — provides USDA commodities (canned, dry and frozen foods) to agencies, churches and organizations that provide cooked meals to recipients.

Food Bank/Food Pantry Program — provides USDA commodities (canned, dry and frozen foods) to agencies, churches and organizations that provide emergency assistance to families in need on a one-time basis. Commodities are distributed in their original packaging and are distributed at the agencies' discretion, depending on the number of individuals in the households.

USDA Commodity Programs — provides USDA commodities (canned, dry and frozen foods) to agencies, churches and organizations that provide monthly assistance to low-income households that meet the Means Tested eligibility criteria. This program is designed to supplement the food that is already being distributed by the participating agency.

Out-of-state distributions — Through a network of farmers, wholesalers, packers and brokers, Farm Share is often able to divert truck-loads of food that are considered unsuitable for the retail market to participating nonprofit organizations throughout the United States.

Agencies recieve free food to distribute to their people free of charge. Farm Share relies heavily on agencies distributiong free food because more food can reach more people through a network of agencies working together.
