Farm Share's main objective is
to recover and distribute surplus fresh and nutritious fruits
and vegetables. Farm Share recovers fresh produce in bulk
(tractor trailer loads, bins, boxes and hoppers). The
produce is washed, sorted, packed by volunteers and inmate labor and distributed locally,
statewide and throughout the Eastern Seaboard to a network of
participating social service agencies serving the homeless and
low-income households.

Farm Share administers the USDA TEFAP
Commodity program to a three county area in South Florida
(Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach).
The commodity programs consist of canned, dry and frozen
foods that are made available through the USDA to assist
both the homeless and low-income households. These foods supplement Farm Share's fresh vegetables and fruits to provide
recipients with valuable nutrientsthey might not otherwise
be able to afford. |
