Farm Share Joins Radio Station to Help Feed Hungry

HOMESTEAD, FL., August 1, 2018 – Farm Share, a non-profit food bank and disaster relief organization, will join Almavision to serve hungry individuals and families in Miami-Dade and South Broward County.

“Farm Share is grateful for the opportunity to join efforts to serve the hungry,” states COO, Stephen R. Shelley. “With schools opening within the next several weeks throughout South Florida, Farm Share is pleased to assist families who often struggle with priorities of rent, food, clothing and medical expenses. As a father, I understand those struggles and hope to provide an opportunity to “lighten the load” of those families by providing an opportunity to assist where Farm Share is able.”

Farm Share will be providing fruits, vegetables, meats, canned goods and other staples – preparing for an estimated 500 families to participate.

Farm Share provided nearly 52M pounds of food to 10.5M households during 2017; up from 2016’s efforts of 40.4M pounds. As hunger increases, a reported 14.7% of Floridians and 20.7% of its children currently live below the poverty line. Florida ranks 20th in food insecure households in 2017, where those in need experienced difficulty providing enough food due to a lack of money or other resources at least once during the calendar year. Farm Share continues to lead the fight against poverty and hunger in Florida by feeding hungry Florida families, children, seniors and individuals throughout the state of Florida.

Through partnerships with local non-profits, Farm Share is able to provide needed items throughout the 67 Florida counties serving millions of needy people with a myriad of items kindly donated by manufacturers, farmers, retailers, wholesalers and others. “Partnerships are the success of Farm Share,” stated Stephen R. Shelley. “Partnerships provide the product and partnerships assist Farm Share in connecting the product to the person who needs it.”
